About Oslo

 

Oslo is the largest and the capital city of Norway . Earlier since 1624 to 1728 it was called as Christiania and from 1878 to 1924 was called as Kristiania. Oslo is its own county and municipality since 3 rd January 1838 . It is a metropolitan city with agglomeration of 839,423 and area is called as the Greater Oslo Region extending beyond the regions of the city borders. City has an estimated population of 1,121,020 as per 2005 data in the area of 6,920 square kilometers. Oslo has history dating back to thousand years and it is the oldest capital of among Scandinavian capitals. The city is fully surrounded by the forests, green hills and blue watered Oslo Fjord, thus having complete image of blue green.

 

Oslo had seen the worst hit by fire that had destroyed the city in 1624. The city was named Christiania after it was rebuilt by Danish King Christian IV by stones and brick. Christiania got its new name Oslo after three hundred years in 1925 this decision of rechristening was proposed by the citizens. Norway capital has all the mixture beauty of old and new architectures with monuments, parks, hills, forests, lakes and Fjord that make it a vibrant and exciting city. This has been a good chosen place for shopping in Scandinavia with interesting activities in field of sports and cultures that entice the visitors. The nightlife of Oslo is widely described having good pubs, clubs, and bars with many eating places. The city has good amount of international standard hotels and restaurants.

 

Center of the city is been surrounded by lakes, woods and around 40 islands around in Fjord. Climate of the city varies and the average temperature is at -3 degree centigrade between November and March, April to May and September to August the average temperature is 8 degrees and June to August is 16 degrees. The sunshine is around of 240 hours per month in June, July, August and September. City has shipping industry, multimedia and telecommunication, information technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, Offshore and engineering activities are the field of business and industry Oslo owns. The city having all the responsibilities has no formal responsibilities of higher education, but still is a center for students and institutions of higher education.

 

Oslo has high responsibility in the field of health and social welfare, urban development, finance, culture affairs that partly include education a transport and environmental affairs. The responsibilities of these sectors correspond to the respective five standing committees. The city has more prospective vision of sustainable development characterizing growth in social, economy and culture, as per the ability of the nature that ecologically can sustain the growth. Aim is to pass the city in the good environmental condition for better living of next generation and make it most friendly sustainable capital cities environmentally. Oslo being maritime knowledge center of Europe is a home to around 980 companies within that sector which has some largest shipping companies of the world. City has good transporting systems through Air, Train, Sea and Roads that are friendly and easily accessible.
