About Palma
Palma is a small city with population of 380000 and is the capital of Mallorca and also the Balearic group of islands. The city is shortly called as Palma and is full name goes as Palma de Mallorca. Enjoying the sunset in the Palma is stunning and memorable which is famous for its beaches and the people visiting rush to the coastal before venturing into the other parts of the city. To the east coast of the Spain the Balearic Islands are located in the Mediterranean Sea . The group of islands that are really wonderful are divided into Pitiusas i.e. Ibiza and Formentera to the south west and Gimmesias i.e. consisting of Mallorca , Menorca and Cabera to the north. The official language of the people of Balearic is Catalan and the Spanish, but some English and German is also spoken in few parts of the islands that are full of tourists.
Mallorca though lying surrounded by the city has seen many historical changes and has great history. The city had been influenced by many civilizations in the history, it was invaded by the Romans and then by Arabs and was named Madina Mayurga. Palma port was used a trading port till 16 th century by the conquerors. The city saw the true developments in the 18 th and 19 th centuries with growth in population size. 1950s were the marking years that raised the tourist phenomena to the islands and led to the transformation of the city. The tourists flow has been steadily increasing which was 50000 in 1960s and to an astounding 6000000 in 1997. The tourism of the islands have put them in the highest GDP and living standards of the people in the islands compared with whole of Spain .
Palma is very highly influencing and the visitor just starts loving the city soon he steps into the airport. It has got everything to offer for the visitor with yachts, Cathedral creating magic and keeps you surprising each moment. Palma the capital is called as La Ciutat by the Mallorquines. Beaches are just a feast for the eyes with long old history melting with the modernity and beauty of the city getting its share with the Mediterranean Sea forming the beautiful blue water coast. About half of the island population live in Palma alone with good economic condition which is more than the European Union average. There are many cultural moments to enjoy that are impressive and large number of historic monuments that should never be missed by any tourist or visitor.
Food is enjoyable and for the sea food lovers, it is more than a paradise; there are many tapas, bars that are open all through night at some places. This is never a bad place for night life lovers and is in full to give you fun and entertainment whole of night.
