About Rome

 

Rome the massive capital of Italy is like a volcanic eruption of history, every place having some monument, statue, museum, fountain or some artifact thriving in past glory. Rome wasn't built in a day, yes, it was built laboriously over a period in history. It's a beautiful, almost unreal city, and it enchants travelers from all across the globe. The city and those who controlled it were responsible for the development of over 2000 years of world history. No other place in the world is as magnificent as Rome , for it is the Roman Empire , which defied the western world, and to this day the grandeur of this city is unmatched. It is from here that the Catholic Church spread its influence worldwide.

 

For a traveler there is so much to see, hear, eat, smell, and absorb that the city is both exhilarating and overwhelming. The traveler enjoys the dizzying paradox that is the Caput Mundi, the eternal city, Rome .

 

Its airport too is named after the famous world-renowned artist Leonardo da Vinci…. Welcoming you to a world of art architecture culture and opulence. The public transport mainly comprises of the 2 Metropolitana subway lines and buses. There are also taxis available and for a thrilling experience try riding a bike or a moped which are available on rent.

 

Rome has thousands of tourists visiting during around Easter, from May to July, and in September. It has so much to see and do that it becomes mind boggling as to where to start, it has ancient temples and forums, Renaissance basilicas, 280 fountains, 981 churches. The city is bursting with masterpieces from every era of the Western civilization.

 

The Ancient city comprises the Roman Forum, Palatine hill and Flori Imperiali. The forum was originally a marshland, first inhabited with Rome 's Iron Age inhabitants around 1000 to 900 BC. From then it bears witness to centuries of civic building, with layers excavated at random in a crumbling jungle. The forum has the civic forum the Market Square , the lower forum and the upper forum. The Palatine hill was the most fashionable residential quarter where aristocrats and statesmen built their homes.

 

Throughout the garden complex terraces provide breathtaking views. The fori imperiali has a trove of temples basilicas and public squares, the most well known being the forum of trajan. The trajan's column is one of the best preserved specimens of Roman relief sculpture. Outside the fori is the Coilloseum, the enduring symbol of the eternal city. There is the arch of Contastine a well-preserved monument.

 

The Centro Storico area of Rome has many famous Piazzas. The Pantheon a temple which has remained remarkably the same since it was built 2000 years ago, can be seen here. Then there is the Jewish Ghetto to be seen. The famous Spanish steps, the fountain of Trevi where travelers throw a coin is also a much-visited place in Rome . The Vatican City occupies 108.5 independent acres entirely within the boundaries of Rome . It is the last remanantof the Papal states . It's a country within a country having its own coins. The art collection here is pretty daunting. The Saint Peters basilica is also a beautiful structure in Rome . Rome a land of history beckons everyone who loves art and architecture.
