Sights in Palma

 

Majorca 's capital city Palma being an island city has beautiful sea with beautiful beaches and has historic quarters that are marked deeply by history. There are many sights like the Palace of Almudaina , the Cathedral, Plaza mayor and the fish exchange are some of the places where the visitors are ought to stop. The beautiful monuments of the island city are complimented with the diverse landscapes, pine groves, palm trees and the fishing boats. The sightseeing in Palma is just bliss and the coastal landscapes are graced with the coves, cliffs and the beaches. There are many tourism facilities from the government and the private transporters who take you for sight seeing of the whole city with payment of a fixed amount. Many tourists prefer to go in sight seeing double decker buses and cars that give a clear view of the landscapes and the city.

 

Cathedral is known as Sa Seu is a mountain made of sandstones that is man made attracts all tourists who step into the city. This is the second largest Cathedral of Gothic in the world and a landmark of the city. One thousand year old Palau de l'Almudaina is a royal palace which is the blend of both Islam and Gothic elements. Museu Diocesa is the museum that is just behind the Cathedral which is of 17 th century. Museum houses Majolica tiles and the items from all the churches of Mallorca that are kept for display. There are many world famous display items like pictures and paintings, one such is the picture of St. George painted in 1468-70 by Pere Nisrat. There are many pictures painted by the famous artists.

 

There is 10 th century brick bath house Banys Arabs, is been the depicting sight of the presence of Moorish in the Mallorca and their style of living and reminds the history of the little island. It is a chamber of horseshoe arched with dome supported by the columns that are irregular. This bath house has its own history and the technology used in building it. Museum of Mallorca is the 17 th century palace built on the foundations of the Arab houses foundations of the earliest Mallorca . The museum houses the history f the Mallorca from the prehistoric times to the 20 th century. Also contains many treasures from the Roman times and powerful recreations of the dwellings and tombs of the Neolithic and Bronze ages.

 

The small city has lot many sights to be visited like the Basilica de Sant francesc, which was the fashionable church during the Middle Ages. Palma 's first luxury hotel was the Gran hotel that opened in 1903, designed by Catalan architect Lluis Domenech i Muntaner, this is famous for it gave the modernist approach to the city. Now there is a modern art gallery since 1995 which was earlier built for the merchants of the family of Olive oil the edifice is the Ca'n Solleric and Passeig des Born that was built in 19 th century.
