Sights of Venice
The city of Venice has a wide number of canals and good places like cathedrals. It was built on a swamp yet tourists from around the world flock to this enchanting city.The major form of transportation in this city, other than by foot, is by small personal boats which are named as gondolas.
venice has many beautiful sites to see, mostly in the form of churches and cathedrals,all steeped in history and stand as a testimony to an era gone by.
A few of them are listed below :-
Madonna dell' orto - It was built in the 13th century and has two beautiful and timeless paintings by Tintoretto – The last judgement and the adoration of the golden calf, which are famous world wide.
Bacilica di San Marco - This is one of the most famous monument in venice. It was constructed in honor of Apostle Mark. Its walls and ceilings are decorated with awe-inspiring paintings which behold the eye of the viewer. It also has many gold mosaics and wonderful paintings studded with gems. The body of Mark is stored in alcove and there are several statues of Mark studded with bronze and gold ornaments which enhance the beauty of the place.
The Bridges of venice :- A romantic but expensive way to see and enjoy the scenic places in venice is by traveling via a gondola at the time of sunset. The road has cathedrals and simple houses of the people living in venice on both its sides. The traveller passes by several bridges connecting the suburbs of the place. Rialto Bridge is famous through out the world and is featured in many movies.
Santa Maria de' Asunta - This is one of the oldest construction. It is situated on the island of Torcello . This simple yet beautiful church has mosaics from the medieval period.
Santa Maria de' Salute - This is highly impressive and architecturally stunning sites in venice. It was initiated by Mr. Longhena and is extremely elegant.
Santa Maria Glorioso de Ferari - It is a beautiful place in the eastern side of the city which is known as San POLO. It too is a wonderful place to visit and have fun. These places are a great sight seeing place for the tourists and is a place for great hang outs.
The Palazo Ducale - This is a beautiful structure in venice . A few of its interesting elements include the giant staircase which has the statues of great people around like Mars and Neptune which represents the power of venice. There is a huge hall just opposite to the place which is used for meetings and counsils.
Accedemia :- This structure is known as a master piece of art. It consists art work from all the ages and all are available at a central place for the art lovers to enjoy the unimaginable paintings and art work.
The City of venice is immortal in history. Its glory can be felt in the sky scrappers all around the place. It's a wonderful place to visit and one should never miss the chance of taking a trip to such a beautiful place on earth.
